How do you pronounce "Fjerstad"?
Fjerstad is a Norwegian name so the "j" is a "y" sound like fyerstad or fear-stad.
What is the difference between a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) and a VMD ( Veterinary Medical Doctor) ?
The University of Pennsylvania alone decided to distinquish its graduates with the VMD instead of the DVM--out of the 26? or 27? veterinary schools in the country. The education, training and license requirements are the same. Not to be confused with DMV (Division of Motor Vehicles).
Is a veterinarian a real doctor?
Yes. Veterinary medicine is as real and as skilled as human medicine. The difference in cost at the front desk is due to the prevalence of insurance in human medicine. Whereas people generally pay a low co-pay for their own care at their doctor's, pet owners pay the whole cost of each visit and procedure. Where else could you pay $150 for a hysterectomy (spay) which includes a skilled surgeon, nursing care, a sterile operating room, pulse oximetry, pain medication, hospitilization, and post operative care?

Go to the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association Website at NJVMA.org.
